E160 constantly disconnecting

Mon, 23 Feb 2009 13:22 - Daniel - Other - Comments (11)

Yesterday I had to use my E160 UMTS stick on my windows PC at home, because my normal internet connection went down. The E160 works quite well and I have a pretty strong signal at home, so no problem there. Web browsing and teamspeak was fine, but World of Warcraft kept disconnecting every few seconds.

After a bit of research it turned out, that my E160 probably has a faulty firmware installed. Updating the firmware to 11.604.21.00.156.B409 should fix the problem.

For some reason Huawei doesn't provide this update on their homepage, so it took me quite a while to find it. I finally got it from drei.at. I have a different service provider, but the update works nevertheless. It only updates the firmware and keeps the Mobile Partner software intact.

I haven't played World of Warcraft after I updated the firmware, but everything seems fine. In fact I'm writing this post while using my E160.

To make a long story short: Here is the download link for the firmware update if you happen to be in the same situation as me.

like above post I would also like to update my firmware, as I have this issue with mmos: darkfall, warhammer online and age of conan. and I dont have a password.

I read someone updated thier and thier provider's manager software won't work anymore.

anyone know how you can back your current firmware up?

Sorry, no idea. It worked fine w/o a password for me. It looks like some
carriers are using a password (maybe this got something to do with
simlock?) and some not. I wasn't really able to find anything useful
about getting the password for flashing. Sorry.

I am interested in buying an unlocked E160 on ebay. I live in the U.S. and use att. I have a 3G unlimited data plan sim, and would like to know if it will on att. Also, I will be traveling abroad this summer in Europe and want to know if it will work there as well. Most importantly, I see that the E160 is capable of voice capabilities and SMS using the global partner software, but it is (optional). Do I have to do anything to have this function?? How do i get any updates for this device. Please let me know ASAP. Thank you.

The Mobil Partner version that is installed on my E160 is not capable of voice communication but can send and receive SMS. I think there is a version out there that is also capable of voice communication, but I don't have it.

The link you provided above works 100%

Previously had one that asked for a password (from a local service provider website). Your's was also a bit newer!

Thanx
